Thoughts In my head: Media, The Internet, and Youtube, and John Green

rice-krispi-treat:

The first John Green book I read was An Abundance of Katherines my sophomore year of highschool. It hasn’t been until recently that my friend Evalyne got me into the videos that he does with his brother Hank. I think its fascinating to see not only how media like television, magazines, and newspaper but the internet has changed the way we interact and all that jazz. (future journalism major right here). I just love media and how it can influences us. The summer of my junior year of high school I went to a leadership conference with some rad peeps from my highschool. When we went to the Holocaust Museum they had a special exhibit that had propaganda that Hitler used throughout his rise to power to the end. Its amazing but scary to think that media can hold so much power and that people often take things they read or see in media at face value without giving it much thought.

In my senior year government class we talked about how the internet has helped globalized the world. Its amazing how I can talk to someone in Australia at a snap of a finger. I also think how its amazing that a person in one place can post a video or help someone on the other side of the world too. I think its incredible to think about the creative power we share with the internet. I’ve “met” so many wonderful creative people on the internet who are trying to create/make the world a better place. And then the coolest thing is when people who create on the internet meet irl. Of course you have to be careful but its awesome that the internet facilitates friendships.

Now on to Youtube… Let’s start off with the fact that I found a video to make a legit Kermit the Frog puppet on Youtube.  Also again with the creativity. I love that anyone can make a video and share their experience or knowledge or just their hilariousness. You can learn to do anything with Youtube too which is cool. My mom has taught herself so many things from watching Youtube videos.

Media just gives me so many feelings ok. Hence why I want to be a journalist (and maybe awesome like John Green one day and be an author)
